Whether you’re at work or at play, Optometrists Clinic Inc in Edmonton has the eyewear for you with an array of frames and lenses to choose from. If you’re an outdoorsy person or simply a sun baby, we offer a full range of sunglasses to protect your eyes from harmful UV rays while you’re outside enjoying the beautiful weather. Or, if you don’t want to lug around two pair of glasses throughout the summer, go with a pair of transition lenses that allows you full vision while inside and darkens to protect your eyes when you step outside.
For those in construction or industrial jobs, picking up a pair of prescription safety glasses built to suit your needs can help you stay focused on the task at hand without compromising your safety.
How Are Prescription Glasses Made?
All prescription eyeglasses begin as lens blanks made from glass or plastic, with a flat back surface and curved front surface. The lab technician will take a lens that is close to the prescription you need and adjusts it down to the required curve with the help of a specialized machine that offers precision grinding. After that, the lenses get edged to fit into the frames you’ve chosen and coatings are added for things like tinting, UV protection, glare reduction, etc. To fit them into the frames, the lenses are either heated or treated chemically to make them flexible enough to easily be inserted. Once they’re checked for imperfections and prescriptive strength, they get cleaned and packaged up for you to pick up.
